When did you join the team?
I always wanted to work in the family business, but I officially joined back in 2011.

How have you progressed in your career?
In terms of professional training, while I’ve been at Island Ales, I have gained my level 1 and level 2 qualifications in wine and spirits. In terms of experience, I have been instrumental in expanding Island Ales business across the south coast.

What are the challenges of working in your role?
It can be challenging keeping up to date with all the changes in the industry and staying on top of new trends and fashions within the drinks business, but that’s what makes it interesting.

What do you love most about your job?
I really enjoy meeting new people and building long term relationships. We work with a really diverse group of clients, getting to know them is really rewarding.

What does your working day look like?
No day is ever the same, some days have early starts and some days have late finishes, you have to be flexible to be a rep in this industry.

What other skills do you need to succeed in your industry?
You need to be a ‘people person’, be willing to talk to anyone and you need to be resilient, being able to accept that there will be good days and bad. It’s important to stay motivated.

What advice do you have for anyone looking for work right now?
Be honest about yourself, be willing to step out of your comfort zone
